Rainbow Love

Aloha friends!  Happy April!!  Spring is upon us and we are headed quickly into the end of the year! I am not feeling the pressure yet and I plan to have a little fun before the whirlwind of activities begin.

This month is poetry month and I plan to do a lot of fun activities with my class.  Last year we wrote some great cinquains about rain.  Click {HERE} for post.

This year we are going to write about rainbows.  I have to confess, I have a bit of an obsession with rainbows.  I get so excited with every one that I see and here in Hawaii it is actually quite often.

My family is used to me pulling off the side of the road while driving, to stop and get a good picture! They are all so different and some more vibrant than others.  Some of the most gorgeous ones I have seen were usually when I was out surfing!  I may need to invest in a new waterproof camera.

So my rainbow obsession has come into my classroom.  A few weeks ago we made these cute Name-Bows inspired by Reagan Tunstall.

We also did some rainbow art and learned about the acronym ROYGBIV.

This coming week I plan to read some rainbow books.

Then we will be writing our own rainbow poetry.  I am going to start with something simple like a shape poem and then we will try some acrostics. If we have time I hope to write cinquains.

There are so many options, so I made a little freebie to give you some different ideas.  Some are simple and others could be used to challenge your higher kids.

I seriously could spend all month with a rainbow theme!  My literacy centers are all set to go too!

These are the perfect Spring themed centers to go along with our topic.  Just click on the picture to check them out in my TpT shop.

I also created all those bright background papers, which are also available in my shop.

Have I overwhelmed you with all of my rainbow goodness? I hope not! I will leave you with a few of my favorite things!

My Week In Pictures

Aloha Friday!! Whoo hoo, my favorite day of the week! Just got home from a quick surf and my house is quiet and pleasant.

Hubby on the computer watching a surf contest, and my daughters are both on iPads playing games, so I have some time to write up a quick post.

We have one more week before Spring Break! I am excited, but I have sooo much to do next week.

I just got an email from my principal telling, reminding me that I need to schedule a pre-conference with her before the 15th.  Whoops, guess I missed the memo on that one. So this weekend I need to decide what lesson I want to be observed on in April.

Now on to the fun stuff!  It's Friday so I am happy to link up again with Kacey over at Doodle Bugs for her Five for Friday.

We have some wonderful Pen Pals in Canada and my kids have been working hard on writing back to them before we head out to Spring Break.

It has been raining a lot, but the last few days have been really beautiful and sunny.  These flowers were blooming in my front yard, along with my roses, hibiscus and plumeria.

We learned about the colors of the rainbow and why we see rainbows. Then we made our own.

Lunch in my classroom today with some rascally, but sweet boys.

Spelling Test today and I was so excited to see how far these little guys have come since the beginning of the year.  All 3 of these students have struggled with spelling and writing.  The one on the left passed our Pre-Test on Monday and had the challenge list this week.  I am so proud of him!!

Finally, me staring out my classroom window at the beautiful ocean beckoning me to leave school as soon as possible to get in it!!

I had a heck of a lot more pictures this week, but I will save them for next week;)  I hope your weekend is fabulous!! Don't forget to link up and share your Five for Friday!
